Primary Education

Primary Education is the education given to children aged 6 — 12 years.

  1. The objectives of primary education are to:
    1. Inculcate permanent literacy, numeracy and the ability to communicate effectively;
    1. lay a sound basis for scientific, critical and reflective thinking;
    1. promote patriotism, fairness, understanding and national unity;
    1. instill social, moral norms and values in the child;
    1. develop in the child the ability to adapt to the changing environment; and
    1. Provide opportunities for the child to develop life manipulative skills that will enable the child function effectively in the society within the limits of the child’s capability.
  2. In pursuance of these objectives:
    1. Primary education shall be compulsory, free, universal and qualitative;
    1. curriculum for primary education shall be as follows:

Primary Classes 1-3:

  1. English Studies
    1. One Nigerian Language
    1. Mathematics
    1. Basic Science and Technology
      1. Basic Science
      1. Basic Technology
      1. Information Technology
      1. Physical and Health Education

                      5.      Religion and National Values

  • Christian Religious Studies

• Islamic Studies

  • Social Studies
  • Civic Education
  • Security Education
  • Cultural and Creative
  • Arabic (Optional)

For effective teaching and learning at the Primary level, the teacher pupil ratio shall be 1:35.
